Medications are an important part of treating illness, managing chronic conditions, controlling pain, and protecting pets from parasites and preventable disease. Our goal is to make obtaining your pet’s medications as safe, convenient, and straightforward as possible.
At Pet Wellness Veterinary Center, prescriptions are selected based on your pet’s individual health, medical history, current medications, examination findings, and—when appropriate—laboratory monitoring. Always give medications exactly as directed, and never change a dose or discontinue a medication without speaking with your veterinary team.
Prescriptions & Refills
Prescription medications require an established Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR). In general, this means your pet must have a current veterinary examination, and certain medications may require additional examinations, laboratory testing, or other monitoring before they can be safely refilled.
Pets change over time—even when they appear healthy. Routine examinations and monitoring allow us to make sure a medication remains safe, effective, and appropriate for your pet’s current health. Please request refills before your pet completely runs out of medication.
Our Trusted Online Pharmacy & Outside Policy
For convenient home delivery, our veterinary team recommends our trusted online pharmacy through Blue Rabbit. It offers prescription medications, preventatives, diets, and supplements with competitive pricing, auto-ship options, and full veterinary oversight to guarantee authenticity.
Using an Outside Pharmacy: We understand that some pet owners prefer to purchase medications from another retailer. If you choose an outside pharmacy, we are happy to provide a written prescription that can be picked up during normal business hours. To maintain accurate medical records and reduce errors, we do not process prescription authorization requests sent directly from third-party pharmacies by phone, fax, email, or electronic authorization system.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use a human pharmacy? Sometimes. Certain veterinary prescriptions can be filled through human pharmacies. Your veterinarian can help determine whether this is appropriate for the medication prescribed.
- Why was my pet’s refill declined? Your pet may be due for an examination, laboratory monitoring, or another recommended recheck before the medication can safely be continued. Contact our team to find out exactly what is needed.
- Why can’t you approve the request my outside pharmacy sent? Our hospitals use a written-prescription model for outside pharmacies. This provides clear documentation for you, the pharmacy, and your pet’s medical record while reducing opportunities for errors involving medication, dosage, quantity, or refills.
